Polit Affairs - Why is it so important, that people care about it more than the war its self? Why US and UK officials talk about it every other day? How is it going to change power balance in the world in years to come?

The new military cooperation between Russia and Iran has attracted all the attention. US officials talk about it even more than the war! NBC wrote a few days ago, citing a Biden official: Russia is now providing an "unprecedented level" of military and technical support to Iran in exchange for Tehran supplying weapons for the war in Ukraine.

As part of the enhanced partnership, Russia may be providing Iran with advanced military equipment and components, including helicopters and air defense systems. In the spring, Iranian pilots trained in Russia to fly the Sukhoi Su-35, a Russian fighter jet, which the officials say indicates Iran “may begin receiving the aircraft within this year.”

The U.S. believes Iran is considering the sale of hundreds of ballistic missiles to Russia, the senior administration officials said. And they expect Iranian support for the Russian military to continue to grow in the coming months.

I have not seen any evidence to support this claim though! this might be true but Iran clearly has refused to do so in recent months. they might accept it if Russia proposes more technologies than what it is already planning to give Iran. but for now, Tehran does not want to get more involved in that war!

Right or wrong, Iran decided to side with Russia in the Ukraine war, to use this chance and complete the puzzle of it's defensive capabilities, not only to get those weapons it did not have time or enough money to make it, but even to get hands on the technology and re-produce helicopters and fighter jets, like what China did decades ago.

Let's go deeper to understand the situation. Iranians were in dire need of all kinds of weapons and munition, when Saddam Hussein decided to invade their country 4 decades ago, with huge support from United States, Soviet Union, and Europe. Iranians gave too much blood in that war, because almost no country was not ready to provide effective and game charger weapons. because those who supported crazy and criminal Saddam, wanted the whole Iranian nation and civilization to disappear.

then, there was only one choice, and that was to make indigenous weapons with domestic knowledge and to produce technology inside the country. even if you do have large number of scientists able to do it for you. the main obstacle here is the budget. so you have to make choices here. you have to prioritize some weapons over others, and this is what have been done in Iran in recent 3 decades. they came to the conclusion that they only can invest on some weapons, like missiles, anti missile systems and drones, also navy ships maybe. but then there is serious shortage is some other areas. they don't have modern helicopters, fighter jets and submarines.

The United States for example which provided Saudi Arabia with sophisticated modern weapons to invade poor country of Yemen for several years, without any sensible reason and result, and still supports Bin Salman's utterly aggressive foreign policy, is OK with all that, but is concerned about Iran getting more powerful! This is Iran's achievement by it's self! if they did not have modern domestic weapons, Russia would never transfer new weapons, as they did not do so in the past despite demands from Tehran. just look at it from another perspective. I'm not talking about ruling regime in Iran. US has done everything against this country in past decades. they have supported those who invaded Iran, who killed thousands of innocent Iranians. they did not provide any weapons so that Iranians could defend themselves. they put too much sanctions on all defensive cooperation. and now one US official says: “We are imposing costs on the actors involved in the transfer of Iranian UAVs to Russia for use in Ukraine,” “We are assessing further steps we can take in terms of export controls to restrict Iran’s access to sensitive technologies.”

now let's answer the the first question. why the West is worried about Iran-Russia military cooperation, more than the Ukraine war? the main reason is that, some countries are worried to see Iran rise again. they now these new technologies might change the power balance in the west of Asia. they know the technology stays within Iran for years to come, no matter what system rules the country. and this is what makes it scary for them. for those who plan to bring misery to the people in middle east.
