How To Cure A Molcajete

HOW TO CURE A MOLCAJETE - Have you been putting off curing your molcajete because you don’t know how or are intimidated by the arm workout? It’s all that stands between you and the best salsa of your life! We recommend splitting the process up over a few days and doing it in your downtime, while watching TV or listening to a podcast. Some people follow the curing step with seasoning (grinding chiles and/or garlic into a paste). We want to know: do you season before you start grinding?

OJO: some molcajetes are made with a mixture of cement and volcanic rock. You’ll know if that’s the case if yours is lightweight (unlike this 20lb beauty) and continually releases grit into your food once cured.
