Somsar is a quiet, peaceful, and elegant village on the bank of the river Damodar in Bankura district of West Bengal. The 12th President of Ramakrishna Math & Mission Srimat Swami Bhuteshanandaji was born here. The name of the village has its origin from the village deity – Someshwar. Someshwar is still now being worshipped in an ancient Shiva temple by the people of Somsar.
You can reach here from Howrah to Burdwan station or by bus to Burdwan bus stop. From the station take a toto (Rs20) or bus(Rs10) and reach Alisha bus stand. Bus interval of 20 minutes leaves from there. Buy a ticket up to the checkpost. (Rs35). From checkpost, you can reach the Ramakrishna Mission by foot or by toto.
