Have you tasted the famous Street Food of Delhi - Aloo Tikki ? If you haven't then you must try it whenever you visit the Capital city of India.  Otherwise, the next best thing is to try and make it at home. We just love this Street food that is served piping hot. Usually there is a queue, waiting time to get your tikkis in the chaat shops as this is one of the most frequently ordered dishes . It is also called as Aloo Tikki Chaat in some places . The Chaat bhaiya has a huge shallow tawa/skillet with the shaped and ready to fry Aloo patties. When you order for the Aloo Tikki, they fry in desi ghee ( cow ghee/clarified butter) and then serve the tikkis smeared with the chutneys. 

Though every Chaat shop has it's own recipe to make the tikkis, the main ingredients and the method they are made are almost the same. For those of you who missed watching me make this chaat, here is the recipe that is very close to the Delhi  Street Style Aloo Tikkis. I have also given you tips to make this dish Vegan .

Needless to say, they are always a super hit in my kitchen and they disappear even before I finish making the entire batch😋

Delhi Style Aloo Tikki :

Preparation time : 10 minutes
Cooking time : 25 minutes
Serves : 4
1 cup = 250 ml cup

Important Note : When you boil the potatoes, boil with just enough water not too much water. Once the potatoes are boiled, drain the excess water , peel and mash the potatoes when they are hot. Also add 1/8 teaspoon of turmeric powder while boiling the potatoes.
Note: If you do not have the time to make filling separately, add all the filling spices into the entire mashed potato , mix and shape them into tikkis and shallow fry. Tastes yummy either ways.

Ingredients :

2 potatoes ( large) ( boiled, peeled and mashed)
2 tablespoons cornflour/corn starch
1 teaspoon chilli powder
1/2 teaspoon amchoor powder OR lemon juice
2 tablespoons ghee/clarified butter
1 teaspoon oil ( for greasing hand )
salt to taste

For filling :

1-2 green chillies ( finely chopped)
5-10 mint leaves/pudina leaves
Handful of coriander leaves ( finely chopped)
1 garlic pod ( finely chopped) 
1/2" fresh ginger (finely chopped)
10 cashew nuts ( roughly broken into smaller bits)

For serving :

Red chutney/Meetha Chutney/Sweet Chutney
Green Chutney
3/4 cup Whisked Curd
