The First Draft Writers’ Series brings authors and poets of note to the Pendleton Center for the Arts to share new work. On the third Thursday of each month, people who love the written word gather at PCA, in Pendleton, Oregon, to hear our featured authors as well as three to five minute open mic readings by local emerging writers.

Lawson Fusao Inada was our featured writer for July. Inada has been recognized by the President of the United States, appearing at the White House in “A Salute to Poetry and American Poets.” His poetry volume Legends from Camp (1992) received the American Book Award and was featured on CBS Sunday Morning. He is a winner of the Governor’s Arts Award(1997), the Oregon Book Award (1997), and the Pushcart Prize (1996) for poetry.



The event is free to the public thanks to generous support from Oregon Humanities, as well as from local sponsors and regional foundations.
