Rain or shine, President-elect Rodrigo Roa Duterte's supporters gathered at the Sugbo Plaza grounds in South Road Properties (SRP), Cebu City on Saturday, June 25, for his thanksgiving celebration dubbed with the theme "Call4Change."

Duterte arrived around 10 in the evening and immediately expressed his gratitude to the Cebuanos for more than one million votes that he garnered from the province.

In his speech, he reiterated his abhorrence towards corruption and drugs as, according to him, the number of drug addicts in the country ballooned to 3 million. He also warned those police personnel and officers who are involved in illegal drug transactions.

“Corruption must stop and the drugs must be controlled and totally eradicated,” he said.

Duterte also challenged the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Bureau of Customs (BoC), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), among others, to make transactions faster and to stop collecting illicit fees from the people.

“I do not want to see a Filipino queuing… You tell them what to process and do not add or subtract,” he stressed.

The president-elect addressed the police and the military groups to improve the provision of benefits to the families of deceased soldiers and policemen.

Moreover, Duterte said that he is having peace talks with the Communist Party and is trying to talk to the Abu Sayyaf Group.

Heavy rain poured over the place two hours before the start of the thanksgiving celebration but it did not hamper the supporters to gather. The event commenced at 7 pm with multiple performances from local dance groups, bands, and singers, including Dulce, before the arrival of the president-elect at around 10 pm.

The thanksgiving celebration was hosted by the incoming Undersecretary of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Kat De Castro, Arnel Ignacio, Keanna Reeves, and a local co-host. Also present during the event were the president-elect’s brother, Don Duterte, and Senator Allan Peter Cayetano.
