Peru - Double expedition Alpamayo (5947m) and Chopicalqui (6354m)

Описание к видео Peru - Double expedition Alpamayo (5947m) and Chopicalqui (6354m)

In an exciting double expedition, we climbed the Alpamayo (5947 m) and the Chopicalqui (6354 m) - two majestic peaks in the Peruvian Andes. Perfect weather conditions accompanied us on the Santacruz trek, which encircles the ‘most beautiful mountain on earth’, the Alpamayo. To acclimatise, we climbed the Nevado Mateo at 5150 m. Our starting point was Huaraz, the ‘Chamonix of South America’, from where wild bus tours through impressive landscapes and contact with friendly people made the trip unforgettable. We were guided on all tours by a professional and motivated team from Peru Expeditions Tours.

These two dream peaks, the Alpamayo and the Chopicalqui, are absolute highlights in their own right from an alpinist perspective - and not just in the Cordillera Blanca! The "most beautiful mountain in the world" (?) and the equally fascinating Chopicalqui - beauty aside, height aside - a dream combination for mountaineers with advanced all-round skills and very good physical fitness! The Chopicalqui is not an extremely difficult mountain, but should not be underestimated with its wildly torn glaciers and seracs. Some steep sections with changing ice conditions therefore require considerable mountaineering skills. The Nevado Alpamayo, on the other hand, is technically much more difficult, but at just under 6000m it is a few meters lower, but should be viewed as anything but just an "acclimatization mountain". In the distinctively grooved southwest face (depending on the conditions, the Ferrari or the steeper French route is used), ice climbing difficulties of up to 60 degrees steepness must be mastered, although this is made much easier over long stretches with fixed ropes.
