Train to Busan - 부산행 - is an absolute gem of a movie from South Korea. Supposedly a zombie based horror film (which is why I watched it for Halloween), at its heart, it's an emotional human drama (and a tragic one) that deals with serious subjects including one's responsibilities to others, even strangers, in the face of danger and death. We see some people panic and freeze up, accepting fate. We see others fight to the bitter end. There are people who will basically kill others with no compassion, to help save themselves. And there are people who sacrifice everything in order to help the people around them (be it family, friends, or strangers). It also touches upon selfishness outside of horrific situations like this and the struggle to balance family and work related responsibilities that may make one more likely to be cold and uncaring - something we all can probably relate to in some ways. Love, hope, fear, strength, weakness - everything is present. And beyond that, it's an extremely tense and well filmed movie.
