The Difference between a Life Jacket and Personal Floatation Device by AquaMobile Home Swim Lessons

AquaMobile President & Founder Diana Goodwin discusses the differences between lifejackets and personal floatation devices (PFDs) and explains why lifejackets are the better option for kids and adults learning how to swim.

PFD and life jacket tend to be used interchangeably, but a life jacket has a large collar at the base of the neck and is designed to keep a person afloat AND turn the wearer onto his or her back whether conscious or unconscious. The extra support is designed to keep the head and mouth out of the water. It also tends to be bulkier than a PFD. As such, PFDs tend to provide more freedom of movement and are more comfortable.
