Bills Mafia unites in support of Kansas City mass shooting victims

Fans across Western New York are rallying together to support children who were hurt during Wednesday's shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade.

"My heart sank, because you don’t know what’s going on, and you’d already heard at that point that there were victims," says Dan Fischer.

Fischer is a dedicated Buffalo Bills season ticket holder. A close friend shares his passion, but roots for the Chiefs. When Fischer heard about the shooting at Wednesday's parade, he feared his friend might be among the 23 fans shot.

"My immediate instinct was to text him and say, 'Are you okay?' And of course, it took him 20 minutes to get back to me because he was trying to get out of there," Fischer said. "So when he finally texted me, I was relieved that everybody, that he was okay, but only to find out that there were more victims is just unfortunate, leaves you a sick feeling."

The fan base from the "City of Good Neighbors" has a reputation for supporting charitable causes, so Dan wasn't surprised when the 2023 "Buffalo Bills Fan of the Year," Del Reid, rallied the community to support Kansas City.

"Del had put out the link to the children’s hospital there in Kansas City, and as soon as it was there, I immediately donated. I didn’t hesitate," said Fischer.

Kansas City police say 22 people were shot, and a 43-year-old woman was left dead. At least half of the shooting victims are children under the age of 16, according to police.

"Every time it seems like we have something good, there’s gun violence that goes along with it," said Fischer. "It's always tragic."
