Bad day - read description

He had fallen off his bike 4 months ago, new bikes, getting used to them in the parking lot. He fell and broke his leg, ended up with an open fracture.
They fused the bone with hardware. That hardware apparently had a nasty infection which IV/PIcc line antibiotic infusion therapy wasn't touching so it ate the bones away in his ankle.
So little left they went with amputation.
It sucks hell because he was supposed to go in for eval for an antibiotic nail (I had to google it too) and then would be able to walk after a couple weeks but it went down this road instead.
I thought he was going in for another cleaning until the OR nurse prepped him and called me to inform me that nah, it's not being cleaned, debrided, none of that, it's being cut off. OR Doctor then after the procedure tells me the leg couldn't have been saved.
I'm going to try having him transferred to the local hospital so I can visit him daily and be there physically to support him. Though I still want to cry.
