Majestic Majapahit

East Java was the home to several kingdoms whose apogee was the Majapahit in the 14th & 15th century. The Majapahit empire rose from the ruins of Singasari after the death of King Kertanegara (1268-92). The empire extended its dominion much beyond Java to Thailand, Sumatra and other nearby islands. The Majapahit kings employed gifted architects and sculptors and even today many remnants of their glorious work can be seen in East Java.
