This is a presentation by TG4, Ireland's Irish language television service, about the singer, storyteller, and wit, Éoiní Ó Súilleabháin of Cúil Aodha, in the Muskerry Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking district) about 9 miles west along the road to Killarney from Macroom and 12 miles from ballinagree, where my late mother grew up.. Eoiní was one of three brothers, Donncha (answers to 'Dinny' or 'Danny' when he's in the mood!) and Diarmuid ('Diarmuidín') who died in a tragic car crash in December 1991. Their sisters also feature in this documentary, especially Eibhlín, the well known sean nós (a traditional song sung unaccompanied) singer.

It was my personal privilege to meet all of them during my first ever trip to the area in August 1972. We were all in our prime then, of course!

It is quite extraordinary that such a rich and creative culture and way of life has not only survived into the twenty first century but continues to flourish unabated. deo

Clár é seo de chuid TG4 a craobhscaoileadh chun omós a thabhairt, ní hamháin do Eoiní féin ach da chlann go léir agus dá mhuintir ar fud an cheantair chlútaigh sin, ach chun omós a thabhairt don chultúir as a dtáinig gach duine acu.

Mo ghraidhn go deo sibh, a bhuachaillí agus a chailíní!
