Women are doing spectacular in university yet estimates suggest that half of these graduates become part of the labour force. For women across the world, "care work" goes almost unacknowledged despite being one of the most difficult yet crucial task required of any good economy. The lack of proper compensation and representation for women and care work leaves many without a choice but to drop out of the workforce.

Tashny deep dives into workplace barriers and cultural expectations and how that further reinforces women to feel less inclined to work. Tashny is a senior analyst whose research interests include labour migration, gender equality, and the regional role and position of international human rights mechanisms. She is the founder of 50-50 Malaysia, a tool to connect policymakers, journalists and the public with female experts in, on or from Malaysia. She was a former correspondent for the South China Morning Post where she wrote extensively on the Belt and Road Initiative in Malaysia. She holds a postgraduate degree in human rights law from SOAS, University of London. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
