SJM is an established company that has been providing specialist images and services into the to the bio-medical industry for 30 years. Our current work is shaped by the various bespoke systems and techniques we have developed during this time.
Our work is used both nationally and internationally to promote advances in science, medical techniques and equipment. In addition to working on location, our studio produces world-class images of the latest technical hardware and consumables. Combining a wide range of video and animation techniques, we are able to intelligently visualise complex procedures and demonstrate specific product USPs to the target audience.
Our large folio of work spans from working with surgical teams in sterile surgical environments using medical robots, down to producing high-resolution images of the smallest implantable devices.
As part of an integrated service, the team at SJM offer a wide range of services tailored to the requirements of the biomedical and scientific sectors. This allows our clients to cost-effectively re-purpose their media for many different applications.
In addition to class-leading imaging of technical hardware and spaces, we have team of specialist who provide specific solutions and design services for different applications.
These include:
• Comprehensive imaging services
• Intelligent, informative video media
• Class leading 3D modelling and 3D object/special imaging
• Striking show-stand graphics
• Modern print design
• Web design and media integration services
Consultancy services:
Clients often require expertise to visualise product features and USPs. This can involve solving technical imaging problems but at a deeper level involves thinking through what is being communicated to a number of different audiences – Surgeons, theatre staff, patients, hospital administrators etc.
To avoid clients wasting time and money, we offer a consultancy service which delivers a detailed report providing solutions to these challenges. We have worked on an extremely wide variety of projects – from implantable devices, nuclear physics to high-speed imaging for amusement parks.
We have developed bespoke solutions for 3D object imaging, 3D spacial imaging in restricted spaces such as car and aircraft cockpits, high speed stills/video, covert and time lapse imaging, microscopy, advanced 3D modelling and special effects. Any one of these systems is unlikely to be a solution on its own.
With over 30 years experience working on technical imaging problems, we have valuable expertise and access to specialist technicians. This enables us to develop novel, hybrid photographic/engineering/electronic solutions to meet the most unusual challenges.

Working with a range of clients:
SJM studios work with a broad range of clients: research scientists, medical and dental professionals, manufacturers and distributors of medical and scientific instruments - to small independent companies who provide services and products to these industries.
SJM have developed technical imaging systems for working on a range of products that are challenging to image, including products that are transparent, reflective, fragile, extremely small or otherwise awkward to support, light and shoot. Specialist optical and bespoke lighting rigs enable us to undertake close-up imaging for various magnifications, right down to microscopy.
As with any professional product photography or design studio, all the products that come through the studio are, by definition, new products. We have worked on all sorts of sensitive projects from medical devices, defence systems to Formula 1 cars. Because all our post-production is done in-house, this enables us to offer excellent confidentiality. We are used to working under signed NDA.
Most of the imaging we do is technically based but a large part of our service is designing images from a very basic brief. We also have a long track record for the production of special effects and concept photography for industry.
