The Leiffer and Ellsworth Loop Trails hike is one of the best in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, and it's also one with a lot of solitude.

It's 1.8 miles long with 300 feet of elevation gain, and it's accessed via dirt Walker Road (off Highway 199), beyond the far more popular Simpson-Reed/Peterson Memorial trail system.

The Leiffer and Ellsworth Loop Trails hike has gorgeous redwoods, of course, but it also offers stately bigleaf maple trees that glow with autumn color.
