New resident interns start in the hospitals every July first. Due to their being new, intern physicians are often the butt of many jokes due to their status as being new, and the great responsiblity placed on them immediately upon entering the hospital. I've been a part of the culture of making fun of new interns due to the general challenges of working with people when they are new, and I've changed my perspective over time as I've begun my career as a nurse practitioner.
