Playwright with TypeScript | Execute Test in Multiple Environments with Playwright | Handle Multiple Environments

Handling multiple environments with Playwright lets you run tests on different setups like development, staging, UAT, production etc.

Mainly we would require the Dotenv package to handle multiple Environments.
We would also be using Cross-env package, The cross-env package for Node.js helps manage environment variables across platforms and operating systems. It ensures (more or less) consistent behaviour across different platforms by setting environment variables regardless of the operating system


Batch Terminal refers to the command prompt (cmd.exe) provided by Microsoft Windows.
PowerShell Terminal is a command-line interface provided by Microsoft.
Bash Terminal is the default terminal on most Unix-based operating systems, including Linux and macOS.’

Commands to execute test with Specific environment on different terminals -

Batch (cmd) Terminal -
set var_name = value
npx playwright test

PowerShell Terminal -
$env:var_name=’value’;
npx playwright test

Bash Terminal -
var_name=value npx playwright test
