“Shot Heard ‘Round the World”

Two hundred and fifty years ago, on April 19, 1775, the first shots of the American Revolution rang out in Lexington and Concord.

The “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” marked the moment when ordinary men—farmers, blacksmiths, and shopkeepers—stood against tyranny and fought for the freedoms we cherish today.

These brave Minutemen risked their lives and fortunes in the pursuit of freedom.

Without this battle, there would be no American Revolution ….and there would be no America.

That same spirit of courage and duty lives on today in the men and women of the Arkansas National Guard. From the citizen-soldiers of our early militias to our brave Soldiers and Airmen serving today, Arkansans have always answered the call to defend our state and nation—at home and abroad.

As we honor the legacy and sacrifices of those American Patriots who fought for our independence 250 years ago, let's also understand the responsibility we all share in preserving it.
