Video TL;DW: Early EPROMs were chaotic. The Texas Instruments TMS2516 looks like a standard 2716, but quirks in both hardware and software made it a nightmare to support. In this video I show how I added support for these vintage 24-pin EPROMs to my Relatively Universal ROM Programmer — with just a diode, a resistor, and a firmware update.

With the proof-of-concept Arduino code updated, the programmer now works with some of the earliest standardized EPROMs you’ll find in retro computers, arcade machines, and industrial gear. Support in Henrik Olsson’s excellent Firestarter software is right around the corner too.
