My name is Gabriel Massan; I am a Berlin-based Brazilian digital sculptor and new media artist working with storytelling and world-building. My research tackles and creates worlds that simulate and narrate situations of inequality within the Latin American experience. Framed through a conceptual practice I call ‘fictional archaeology,’ and working across 3D animation, digital sculpture, games, sound, and interactive installations, I aim to challenge warped conceptions of the so-called ‘Third World’ while investigating possibilities for subversive otherness.

Now in its 4th consecutive year, the CIRCA PRIZE returns with an open call for artists to win £40,000 through submitting a 2.5 minute video work in response to the CIRCA 20:24 manifesto, ‘Break Free Time’s Arrow Flies Forever Forward’ – in a bid to discover, platform and champion the future visionaries who are shaping our world for the better.

A prestigious jury, featuring past CIRCA artists and long-time collaborators including Marina Abramović, Lisa Anderson, Nicoletta Fiorucci, Michèle Lamy, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Josef O’Connor, Kembra Pfahler, Sir Norman Rosenthal, Slawn, Nadya Tolokonnikova and Ai Weiwei, will come together to select the winner of the £30k CIRCA PRIZE.

Plus, an online public vote, powered by Piccadilly Lights, will grant an additional £10k to the artist with the most votes. That’s £40k in total up for grabs!

The winners will be announced during a LIVE! ceremony in Piccadilly Circus on Tueaday, 1 October at 8pm BST.
