Exploring The Battlefield Trail And Its History | In this video, We explore the Battlefield Trail at Riverbend Park in Jupiter, FL. As we walk along the trail's path you can't help but feel some emotion about the history that lies here. The trail is memorialized to those lost during the Second Seminole War but the history of the area itself dates back about 5,000 years. The Second Seminole War (1835-1842) was the fiercest war waged by the U.S. government against American Indians. The first battle of the Loxahatchee, referred to as Powell’s Battle, took place here on January 15, 1838. The second battle of the Loxahatchee, referred to as Jesup’s Battle, occurred just nine days later on January 24, 1838. Each year, in January, a battle re-enactment is held to educate the public on the significant battles that occurred on this land in 1838.
