Why People Cheat (Let’s Talk About It)

Cheating is one of the most painful betrayals in a relationship, and while there are reasons behind it, there are no excuses.

Let’s break it down:

1. Attachment Wounds:
• Dismissive Avoidants (DA) are the most likely to cheat. Their ability to compartmentalize emotions lets them justify behavior that would devastate someone else.
• Fearful Avoidants (FA) may cheat when they feel completely unseen, unheard, and emotionally unsafe—often as a cry for connection.
• Anxious-Preoccupied (AP) partners rarely cheat. And if they do, it’s usually short-lived, not a long-term affair.

But let me be clear—attachment wounds are NOT a free pass to cheat.

Cheating is a character flaw.
Especially when it’s repeated. The level of compartmentalization required is, honestly, borderline psychotic to me.

For me personally, cheating is a non-negotiable.
BUT if you choose to stay after infidelity, no judgment, and I do believe couples can bounce back IF:
• The cheater takes full accountability
• They’re willing to dig deep and address the root cause
• And they commit to the long-haul—it takes a minimum of two years to heal depending on the level of betrayal

If you’ve been cheated on—or if you were the one who cheated—again this is a judgment free zone.
