In 1303, the Battle of Roslin took place in Scotland between the English army and the Scottish rebels. During the battle, one of the key players was John Segrave, an English knight.

As the fighting raged on, Segrave found himself surrounded by Scottish soldiers and eventually overwhelmed and taken captive. The Scots recognized Segrave's importance and knew that his capture could be used as a bargaining chip in negotiations with the English.

Segrave was held captive for several months before eventually being released. Although he had been defeated in battle and taken prisoner, Segrave was able to return to England and continue his service to the English crown.

The Battle of Roslin was a significant moment in Scottish history, as it was one of the first major victories for the Scots against the English.
