Something I wanted to know for a while is how "money shifts" are simulated in different simracing games. Recently I acquired a usb shifter which has given me the opportunity to test out what happens when you shift into a gear that is not made to handle high speeds! The images are pretty sef explanatory but here is a more detailed breakdown of what effect money shifts had on the different games.
Project cars 2: The engine was dead. No more driving for the Porsche. In some other attempts at lower speeds (under 200kph) the car sometimes would not die on the first moneyshift.
Dirt rally 2.0: Small drifts and a high pitched sound but no damage even when selecting reverse.
Rfactor 2: The engine still makes noise but the car won't move. No more racing after mis shifts in rf2 it looks like.
F1 2020: Just like in DR2.0 the car get's sideways but no engine damage.
BeamNG.drive: A message pops up warning high revs might damage the engine but apart from visually showing us the engine has sustained damage, the car seems fine to continue.
Assetto Corsa: Probably the wildest and most destructive money shift we've done. The car violently spins and the throttle seizes responding after the shift.
