Notion Jam 2024 - Official Highlights

So, what the heck is “Notion Jam”???

“Notion Jam” is the culmination of local and international freeride Pros and Ams riding jumps in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Simple.

Conceived from Baxter Maiwald’s want to share some big air and good times with his mates and Stu Ross from Bikebot’s desire to film cool shit, “Notion Jam '' was born.

It’s arguably the biggest freeride event Australia has seen since Redbull Jindabyne in 2003.

In the summer of 2022, Baxter Maiwald embarked on a journey to create exactly what he wanted to ride. Without any European trips planned, a want to ride big jumps and nowhere local to do so, he gathered some cash from Canyon and other supporting sponsors and set out build a big air playground for himself.

Rowan Saunders was the final puzzle piece, donating land and assisting with resources to let Baxter go wild in his yard. Building the biggest jumps Baxter had ever constructed, pushing both his riding and building skills to their limits. Fast forward to the end of 2023, the jumps had been sitting dormant in Rowan’s yard and Baxter and Stu teamed up with plans to uncover, restore, and enjoy them with some mates. A little jam if you will.
RedBull Hardline is announced to be visiting Baxters local bike park some 1.5hrs away and boom, they’ve got themselves a date and some international pros in the area.

After a month of digging and polishing, the jumps were ready. In that time, Baxter and Stu organized everything they could, with the help of Rhys Ellis from Apogee Bike to pick up the pieces and connect the dots that they didn’t know needed connecting. (There’s a lot to running a jam like this that you don’t even think of, it turns out, haha!)

Straight after RedBull Hardline, a host of some of the worlds best free riders such as Kaos Seagrave, Dennis Luffman and Jim Monro, joined up with Local talent and a team of the best aussie camera operators for 3 days of bike riding in the hills of Hobart.
