Exploring the History and Culture of Pulque Agave

Описание к видео Exploring the History and Culture of Pulque Agave

In this video, I traveled north of Mexico City to the valley of Tiotihuacan. This city used to be one of the largest in Mesoamerica and was used as a major trade route. Trade for goods included precious minerals like Obsidian but there was also the Maguey plant used to make a drink called Pulque. This kombucha like drink is a sour yeasty tasting delicacy made from the heart of the Maguey agave plant. There were four uses for the Maguey heart: the juice for Pulque/honey, the interior skin which was used as paper and a cooking vessel (like for tamales), the fiber used to make textiles, and the exterior juice used as a natural detergent. The Maguey Agave plant was a huge part of society in this area of Mexico for hundreds of years. I hope you enjoyed this video!
