After Peter Gabriel left, the band made two of their most Romantic and Lush records of their entire discography: Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering. Trick of the Tail has always been held in very high critical acclaim but Wind & Wuthering always seems to be the forgotten album of the two. If I'm being honest with myself, Wind & Wuthering is probably my favorite Genesis record alongside Foxtrot. As much as I love Peter's theatrical flair and his incredible lyrics, these two records just seem to have an emotionally dense quality that the Gabriel records don't quite have. It could have been that Peter's departure created more musical space for the band to stretch out on.

The one major issue that I have with these two albums is the fact that Tony Bank's keyboard is oftentimes obscuring Steve's guitar to the point where you can barely hear it. This was also an issue on the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Luckily with separation software technology I was able to isolate Steve's guitar and transcribe it fairly easily. Genesis was such a magical band between 1971-1981. Everything they released within this period was not only top tier Prog but it was also very pleasant and commercially viable at the same time.
