Maintaining proper hygiene will help prevent illness, disease, and infection, but it is also very mentally important during stressful situations. During a major emergency event, sanitation and hygiene might seem low on the priority list, but do the best you can and don't disregard how important it is, especially when finding clean, safe water might be difficult.

Store extra sanitation supplies that you use regularly like toilet paper, diapers, baby wipes, soaps, feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes and toothpaste, etc. Toilets may not work if water or sewer lines are compromised, so be prepared to shut off water mains, plug toilets so sewage doesn't flow out, and have some sort of portable toilet on hand and/or garbage bags you can use inside your existing toilet bowl.
