Hey everyone its Erik from MAPerformance.com. In todays video we are going to have a look at the Cosworth High Volume / Pressure Blueprinted Oil Pump for the Subaru EJ20 and EJ25. Meaning this pump will fit 2002-2014 WRX and 04-2014 STI.
If you are watching this video you are probably having some issues with your oil pump, OR you want to upgrade. Either way, you might be wondering if this pump is going to be good enough for the power you want to achieve. You might also be wondering if you should get the 10, 11 or 12mm version of this pump. And why spend so much more on the Cosworth vs the OEM Version.
In short the 10mm is standard on the WRX and STI with single Active Valve Control Systems or AVCS. 11mm came standard on dual AVCS engines, this being 08+ STIs. The 12mm is just a larger upgrade across the board.
Plain and simple, an upgraded oil pump is not completely necessary unless you are seeking heavy track use. If you are thinking of getting a new oil pump you may have already upgraded your oil pickup and pan. If not, you might want to look there first. These are typically the first steps when modding in this area. And of course, make sure you are using good quality oil.
A larger oil pump is not something you just throw on when you build a motor, main bearing clearances, and a host of other things determine the flow requirements of your pump. It is really going to help on the track and strip where much more oil flow is needed consistently for very high horsepower applications. But too large of an oil pump and too much oil pressure can be a problem as well.
Keep in mind the OEM Oil pump is rated quite high. Deciding on which Cosworth pump depends on how much power you plan on making down the road. The higher the rotor size you will see higher oil movement at a higher pressure. The bigger pumps also have extra machining internally along with some different components to produce the higher volume of flow.
Its a direct factory replacement and will not require tuning!
