This video combines photographs and music from the Lee County Care and Rehab presentation of the original play “Wendy’s Neverland,” created by TimeSlips Creative Storytelling and Signature HealthCARE. Enjoy the photos and Cheyenne Mize singing "I'll Fly Away."

Over a 2-year period of training and creative exploration facilitated by TimeSlips Creative Storytelling, residents of Signature HealthCARE nursing homes in rural Kentucky explored the story of Peter Pan and Wendy.


What if the programming in nursing homes was so interesting that families and neighbors actually wanted to come and participate alongside elders and staff? That was the dream of Angie McAllister, award winning elder-care professional and Anne Basting, an award-winning artist and scholar, and MacArthur “Genius” Fellow.


In 2018-2019 Basting and McAllister led a team of regional and national artists, staff, and elders in a bold reimagining of the story of Peter Pan at 12 Signature HealthCARE nursing homes across rural Kentucky. The project culminates with professionally produced, original performances of “Wendy’s Neverland” in three of the 12 homes.


Wendy’s Neverland is the culminating event of the I Won’t Grow Up Project, made possible with funding by a Civil Money Penalty (CMP) Grant through the Kentucky Office of Inspector General and the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS); and Art Works, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts.

I Won't Grow Up is a project of TimeSlips Creative Storytelling in partnership with Signature HealthCARE. Our dream is to bring meaning and purpose to late life through creativity and engagement.
