We had a wonderful trip up north this year and exploring along the mountains along the Cassiar Highway in Canada with our drone. Traveling in our Alaskan Camper!!

So why is Boya Lake so blue? Here is why: Boya Lake's blue color is attributed to the presence of glacial flour, which is a fine, ghostly grey material made from the grinding of the glacier against bedrock. This glacial flour carries with it fine particles of rock that have been ground up by the massive weight of the glaciers. When this flour ends up in the water, it stays suspended and affects how sunlight is absorbed. The glacial flour mostly absorbs the purple/blue colors of the spectrum, while the water absorbs the reds, oranges, and yellows, resulting in a color that is mostly green with some blue. This phenomenon is particularly noticeable in lakes like Boya Lake, which are fed by water that runs off of glaciers.
