A fishing boat capsized on Wednesday noon, 6km off the coast of Taitung, leaving the captain and two crew members adrift at sea. They had all lost their phones, so they could not call for help. For two hours, they had to hold on to the upturned vessel and hope that someone would see them. Fortunately, they were eventually rescued. They were in relatively good shape and did not require medical treatment.

Medics are taking the vital signs of two people who just moments before were adrift at sea, a nightmare that lasted two hours.

Their captain was also left stranded, just like them. Fortunately, none of them were left with injuries. Although they made it out just fine, the moment when the boat capsized still haunts them.

I felt it tilting, and knew that it was going to capsize in three to five minutes. I tried to turn back, but it was too late, and we ended up in the water.

The capsizing happened on Wednesday noon, 6km off the coast of Taitung. The 78-year-old captain and his two foreign-born crew members all fell into the sea, along with their phones. They had no other choice but to hold on to the boat, and it took two hours for another fishing vessel to take notice and rescue them. Fortunately, they all had stable vital signs, and refused hospital treatment.

My phone was washed away. I called the service desk from the phone on the boat, but it went unanswered. And then we were left without phone service.

The three had gone out to fish and never expected the worst. Fortunately, they were saved just in time, instead of drifting away.
