The Augustusburg and Falkenlust castles at Brühl, a World Heritage Site since 1984, are among the earliest examples of Rococo architecture in Germany. This style was imported from France in 1725 by Clemens August, the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne. Today the castles are public museums.
