Leoš Janáček (1854-1928) was a Czech composer whose music was rooted in the Moravian and Slavic tradition. While a romantic era composer, the music has a uniqueness and originality that sets it apart from strictly Romantic music. In this piece (and the flip side Sinfonnietta) he makes fantastic use of the brass section of the orchestra.
