Zalos attempts to present a philosophical argument for God's existence based on change and potentiality, but immediately runs into trouble with host Matt. Starting with the premise that "change happens," Zalos argues that change is the actualization of potential, using a cooling cup of coffee as an example. Matt challenges whether potential is a property of the coffee itself or exists in the interaction between the coffee and its environment, sparking a lengthy debate about systems, components, and what it means for something to "exist." After 23 minutes of increasingly technical philosophical language, Zalos introduces distinctions between "linear" and "hierarchical" series of causation. This proves to be the final straw for Matt, who erupts in frustration, accusing Zalos of unnecessarily complicating simple concepts while repeatedly getting them wrong. Matt demands that Zalos skip to the conclusion and explain exactly where God fits into the argument, but when Zalos insists he must lay out more distinctions first, Matt ends the call, telling him to call back when he's thought it through better.
