When we face a crisis, most of us freeze. In fact, survival psychology tells us that 80% of people will simply lock up when disaster strikes. In 1 Samuel 17, we see an entire nation frozen in fear by a giant who demands their attention.

In this sermon, we dig past the Sunday School version of David and Goliath to see what’s really happening in the text. We explore the Hebrew wordplay that presents Goliath not just as a warrior, but as a "serpent" in scales, inviting us to see this battle as a continuation of the war that began in the Garden of Eden.

We also look at the difference between Saul, who saw himself in the shadow of the giant, and David, who saw the giant in the shadow of the Almighty. Whether you are facing a lawsuit, a health crisis, or just the daily anxieties of life, the call is the same: stop looking at the size of the giant and start looking at the unseen God.
