STORYLINE
Protesters started removing the barricades on roads around Abdel Moneim Riad square in central Cairo on Saturday a day after President Hosni Mubarak was ousted from power.
Some people in the square were seen dismantling their tents and packing their blankets to go home.
Egyptian army troops were deployed in the square, which is near Tahrir square, the focal point of the protests.
Egyptian protesters jubilant over their success in ousting Mubarak vowed on Saturday to stay camped in Tahrir square until they are confident the military will meet their demands for democracy.
Mubarak surrendered power to the military Friday after an 18-day uprising by millions of protesters demanding the introduction of sweeping democratic reforms.
Clean-up efforts began Saturday on Tahrir, or Liberation, Square, although it was still packed with thousands of people.
