President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joined his fellow alumni in the San Beda Law Annual Alumni Homecoming with the theme, ‘Bedista: Sa Pagsulong at Pagbabago Katuwang ng Pilipino,’ held at The Peninsula Manila, Makati City.

During the program, he witnessed the turnover of a check worth PhP 92,000.00 by the San Beda College of Law ’92 officers to the Bukid Kabataan (BK) as part of its outreach project.

In his speech, the President recognized his alma mater as one of the leading law schools in the country that continues to produce credible law practitioners, and further encouraged San Beda to continue providing quality education to its students.

He discussed his recently signed proclamation ending the peace talks with the Communist Party of the Philippines, saying, “We can never reconcile our values… I cannot go into a coalition and surrender the nation’s sovereignty” as demanded by the communists.

He added that there is “always a time to destroy and to retake,” and emphasized that he intends “to build a strong armed forces and police” to prepare for future armed conflicts with the communist insurgents by ordering military and police officials not to buy second-hand equipment and weaponry.

President Duterte reiterated that he would treat the communists as terrorists and charge them for their crimes committed to the Filipino nation and to the people.

Likewise, the President tackled his unwavering commitment in fighting the illegal drug trade in the country to maintain peace and order, achieve a genuine economic growth and development for majority of the people, and preserve the next generation of Filipinos.
