During the Islamic Golden Age, which is traditionally dated from the 8th to the 13th century, Islam was indeed at the forefront in the field of science, technology, philosophy and culture. During this period, under the direct patronage of Caliphs, Islamic World built up a congenial environment where knowledge from various cultures and religions was embraced, integrated and developed, consequent to deep study by the scholars gathered from across the Muslim world.
This period saw significant advancements in science, philosophy, medicine, and the arts, largely driven by the Islamic empire's expansion and its emphasis on education and scholarship. While Islam provided the cultural and political context, the era was characterized by a remarkable exchange of ideas and knowledge from diverse sources.
The Islamic Golden Age, is often said to have ended with the Mongol invasion and the Siege of Baghdad in 1258 CE. While this event is a significant marker, the decline was a complex process with multiple contributing factors beyond just military defeat.
The achievements of Muslims were envied by various civilizations and they were up and doing to destroy the Islamic Golden Age and ultimately succeeded. But internal rivalry, basically conjured up based on the different interpretation of Islamic tenets played pivotal role in this regard.
It is really heartening to note that the same Islamic World which led the world in the field of science, culture and philosophy are now they are way back from rest of the world. It is imperative to inquire into the reasons of the decline and fall of Islamic Golden Age to get a clear roadmap to way forward.

মোটামুটি ভাবে বলা যায়, ৮০০-১৩০০ শতাব্দী পর্যন্ত সময়ে ইসলামী দুনিয়া জ্ঞান বিজ্ঞান, দর্শন ও সাহিত্যে দুনিয়াকে নেতৃত্ব দিয়েছে এবং সে সময় কালকে ইসলামী স্বর্ণযুগ নামে আখ্যায়িত করা হয়।
তখন, বিশেষ করে ইসলামের খলিফাদের পৃষ্ঠপোষকতায় দুনিয়ার বিভিন্ন স্থানে ছড়িয়ে ছিটিয়ে থাকা জ্ঞান ভান্ডার একত্র করে, পন্ডিত ব্যক্তিদের দ্বারা সেগুলো নিয়ে গবেষণা করার ব্যবস্থা করা হয়। ফলে নতুন নতুন জ্ঞান সংযোজন হয় এবং জ্ঞান বিজ্ঞানে ইসলামী বিশ্ব এক অভূতপূর্ব সাফল্য অর্জন করে প্রায় ৫০০ বছর ধরে জ্ঞান বিজ্ঞানে বিশ্বকে নেতৃত্ব দেয়।
ইসলামের এ স্বর্ণযুগকে ইউরোপ সহ অন্যান্য সভ্যতা ঈর্ষার ছোখে দেখে এবং ইসলামের সে জয়যাত্রাকে থামিয়ে দেয়া এবং ধ্বংস করার জন্য নানা ভাবে চেষ্টা করে। অবশেষে মঙ্গোলদের আক্রমণ এবং বাগদাদ অবরোধ করার ফলশ্রুতিতে ১২৫৮ সালে ইসলামী স্বর্ণযুগের অবসান হয়।
কিন্তু ঐতিহাসিকদের মতে মঙ্গোলদের আক্রমণ ইসলামী স্বর্ণযুগের অবসানের ব্যাপারে কফিনের শেষ পেরেকটি পোতার কাজ করে। ইসলামী স্বর্ণযুগের অবসানের প্রক্রিয়া তার অনেক আগেই মুসলমানদের ভিতর কুরআন সুন্নার ব্যখ্যা এবং এর প্রয়োগ মতানৈক্যের ফলে সৃষ্ট আন্তঃ-কোন্দলের ফলে শুরু হয়।
যে মুসলিম দুনিয়া প্রায় ৫০০ বছর জ্ঞান বিজ্ঞানে বিশ্বকে নেতৃত্ব দিয়েছে সেই মুসলমান দুনিয়া বর্তমান সময়ে জ্ঞান বিজ্ঞান চর্চা থেকে যেন মুখ ফিরিয়ে নিয়েছে। ইসলামী স্বর্ণযুগের পতনের ঘটনার বিশ্লেষণের ভিতর বর্তমানের এই করুন অবস্থা থেকে পরিত্রাণের রাস্তার নির্দেশনা লুকিয়ে আছে।
