As inequality has grown, so has interest in its roots and implications. This online event will explore the intellectual history of inequality, drawing on two recent books—Branko Milanovic’s Visions of Inequality and David Lay Williams’s The Greatest of All Plagues. While Milanovic focuses on economic thought, Williams traces political theory, each offering distinct insights into historical debates on inequality.

Joined by John Cassidy (chair), Beatrice Cherrier, and Anna Stansbury, the panel will discuss how these histories inform our understanding of inequality today.
