The partners to the Association for Borderlands Studies Second World Conference (Vienna/Budapest) are committed to turning it into an event of global scale. As a part of our endeavours to achieve this, we jointly organised a "global view" track to provide an overview over the state of the arts in border research worldwide. This program consisted of seven panels in total, covering Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, North America, and South America; each panel was organized by an expert on the respective region. To enable the broader public and students around the world to profit from the concentrated knowledge present at the conference, these panels have been filmed and made accessible via the internet. This was possible thanks to financial support by the Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung, bpb).

The fifth panel of this track was titled 'Border-Making and its Consequences: North America/Canada-U.S. Border' and included the following participants/presentations:
