This is the full process I used to build my new character for the contest. I started with a very basic base brought into CC3 years ago, worked on his skin first, then morphs, etc. I tend to back-and-forth, because I see new things as I go.

No music, lots of muttering. I explain why I'm doing what I'm doing as I do it, and it's waaaay longer than I'd usually post, but if you want details on the process, here you go.

He's pretty cool now, but he's not done, so there will be more!
