So knowing that the BC government was asking hunters to stay, “local,” still this year, we had planned a hunt within region 2. When the tighter restrictions came down the other week, they tightened travel restrictions to, “within your health authority,” so after some research, we adjusted our plans and picked a spot that would keep us within the health boundaries. A week ago, the goal posts were moved yet again, when the government amended the health authority boundaries and effectively left us scrambling for a plan C. Luckily for us, region 2 has no shortage of great bear habitat within our health authority and aside from the inconvenience of having to keep revisiting the drawing board, it wasn’t earth shattering to find a way to make it all work. We found a beautiful valley we’d never been into before with a stack of South facing slopes, hedged our bets and it all paid off 🙌

Put just over 25km on the boots and more on the truck the past 2 days through some of the most beautiful country I’ve had the privilege of hunting, and the effort was rewarded with a great looking boar and a much needed restock of the freezer.

Don’t let travel restrictions put a damper on your spring season. There are so many amazing places right in our own backyards that all too often get overlooked. Get outside!
