I’ve been invited to the UK launch of the brand new BYD Sealion 5 DM-i, and in this video I take you behind the scenes of the event, the test drive experience, and my first impressions of BYD’s latest Super Hybrid family SUV.

The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i is designed to deliver the feel of an electric car for everyday driving, with the reassurance of a petrol engine for longer journeys. Most daily trips like commuting, school runs and errands can be done using little to no petrol, helping to significantly reduce running costs without forcing a lifestyle change

Inside, the Sealion 5 DM-i offers a spacious, modern cabin with thoughtful tech touches throughout — including voice control that recognises different seating positions, a large central touchscreen, wireless charging on higher trims, and plenty of room for passengers and luggage. It’s clearly been designed with busy, real-life routines in mind 

One of the standout features is Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), which allows you to power external devices directly from the car — perfect for active lifestyles, road trips, workouts on the go, or even just making a coffee wherever you are 

🔋 Super Hybrid with DM-i Technology

The Sealion 5 DM-i uses BYD’s Super Hybrid Dual Mode technology, meaning it operates mostly like an electric vehicle while intelligently switching when extra power or longer range is needed. With up to 86km of pure electric range and a total combined range of over 1,000km, it offers flexibility without compromise — ideal if you’re not quite ready to go fully electric yet
