In this exclusive ground report by Geetanjali, we bring you the voices, demands, and concerns from the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political)-led Kisan Mahapanchayat held in Delhi on August 25, 2025. Farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh gathered in large numbers, carrying forward the legacy of the historic farmers’ movement, determined to make their demands heard.

At the center of this mobilization was Jagjit Singh Dallewal, Punjab’s leading farmer leader and national convener of SKM (Non-Political). Addressing the Mahapanchayat, Dallewal stressed that if the government had ensured fair compensation through MSP based on the C2 + 50% formula as recommended by the MS Swaminathan Commission, India would not be facing the heartbreaking reality of farmer suicides today. He accused the government of avoiding genuine dialogue with the farming community, highlighting the widening trust gap.

Dallewal further warned against India’s agriculture being dragged into free trade agreements (FTAs) with the U.S. and other countries, cautioning that such steps would devastate Indian farmers. He also demanded the withdrawal of all protest-related cases filed against farmers at borders like Shambhu and Khanauri during previous agitations.

Adding to the frustration of farmers, the Union Agriculture Minister’s absence abroad delayed talks once again. A letter from the Ministry, signed by Joint Secretary Purna Chand Kishan, promised discussions within 15 days of the minister’s return, but farmers questioned this repeated delay.

As journalist NeelkamalTOI’s tweet also reflected, the core demands remain: a legal guarantee for MSP, exclusion of agriculture from FTAs, and the withdrawal of protest cases. This Mahapanchayat is not just about demands—it is about survival, dignity, and the future of India’s farming community.
