Built on a small rocky hillock in the middle of the Kaveri River. The heritage blog states: “This temple is in the middle (நடுவே) of river Kaveri … the temple was built on three levels, depending on the contour of the rock surface.”

The temple’s sthāla vruksham (sacred tree) is an Aathi (fig) tree (often spelled Athi mara) located within the complex.

The circumambulation path (pradakshina) is noted to have been designed to resemble the shape of the mantra “OM” (ஓம்) according to one heritage‐site write‑up.

Access: Before modern bridge/road, the temple was reachable via coracles (small boats) from the banks of the river.

The structure appears to have roots in old times (some say 1000+ years) though exact date of original construction is unclear; later renovations have taken place.
