Unlike sequential programming where instructions execute in a fixed order, selection-based flow charts introduce decision points that guide the flow depending on whether a condition is true or false.

In a typical flow chart for selection-based programming:

The Input symbol gathers data (e.g., a number from the user).

The Decision (diamond shape) checks a condition (e.g., is the number ≥ 0?).

Based on the result, the program follows different branches:

If the condition is true → Execute a specific process (e.g., display "Positive Number").

If false → Execute an alternate process (e.g., display "Negative Number").
