As we enter into a season where we focus on giving back as a family, one service project for kids that we love is making care packages for the homeless. Putting together these survival kits and blessing bags are a great way to show people that someone was thinking of them.

The items we chose to include in our care kit were:
Small Water Bottles
Soft Granola Bars
Wet Wipes
Tuna (easy open packs)
Crackers with peanut butter or cheese
Socks (wool or thermal in winter)
Chapstick
Applesauce
Toothbrush with Cover & Toothpaste
Chewable Multivitamins

We packed the blessing bags into gallon sized ziplock bags to protect from wetness and to keep everything fresh and clean. Genuine, personal, handwritten messages are always nice to include, as well. As we created these care packages, we were sure to have conversations with the kids about gratitude, loving others, and giving. Some of the snacks we packed were the last of their favorites and it was the perfect moment to teach them about being a cheerful giver. Faith ran to her room and pull four lollipops from her “special box” to include in the care packages. Side Note: Candy is not exactly recommended to give out, but when your daughter wants to give from her secret stash, you let her.
