Students Spotlight Series!
In this video, you’ll see my two 8-year-old students, Clara P. and Clara M., performing Gavotte by Carl Bohm, a piano duo, at the 2025 Carmel Klavier International Piano Competition. This piece was part of the Elementary Ensemble Category, and their performance received both 1st Prize and a special Judges Recognition Award.

🎶 Pedagogical Notes:
This duo is a wonderful introduction to ensemble playing for young pianists. It helps develop listening skills, rhythmic precision, and musical interaction. We worked on matching articulation, balancing voices, and understanding the stylistic character of the Gavotte. I also emphasized the importance of stage presence and communication between partners—skills that go beyond just playing the notes.

Carl Bohm’s music is ideal for this level—melodic, accessible, and full of teaching opportunities. I hope this performance inspires other teachers to explore duet repertoire with their students and to encourage collaborative musicianship from an early age.
